One’s Junk = Another’s Treasure

Today I put a whole bunch of junk on my driveway, posted a sign reading “Garage Sale” and set up my retail store. The inventory was plentiful. Among the most popular items, a red glass jar, a queen comforter set, and an electric fan. I also unloaded numerous nick knacks, and some old VHS videos, and an old lawn mower that no longer works (I got $4 for it!)

As a merchant, I was willing to bargain on most items. As the day went on, my prices went lower and lower, eventually resulting in the sale of several items for 50 cents. My goal was to make $200, and get rid of large items that we do not want to move once our house sells.

Over-all, I find garage sales humorous. We literally take our accumulation of junk and proudly display it in (of all places) front our house. We then proceed to hope our customers don’t figure out we’re bluffing when we sell them an item that we clearly view as garbage. No, we act as thought each and every item holds high value. I am always amazed at the people who want to give 25 cents less to feel as though they are getting a good deal. I always give in and take less. After all, if they leave empty-handed, I am left with packing up the stuff and carting it to the good-will.

Today’s Profit = $237.00 .

  2. I’m simply amazed you were able to conduct a garage sale in those frigid 70’s temperatures.
