I am amazed at how many people ask me, “is Weston going to be an actor? Is he going to be in theatre?” Granted, I am new at this parenting thing. Long before he was born, Erin and I agreed that our kids will be able to do anything they want to do. We will never tell them what their career will be, nor will we tell them where they will go to college (0r even if they will go to college.) We believe that they should have the freedom to choose what they want to do in life just as our parents allowed us to choose. We will support and encourage our kids in whatever direction they choose to go – being their biggest cheerleader. So the answer is. . .I have no idea what Weston will do and be when he grows up. All I know is that as his father I will give him all I can to help him succeed in anything he chooses and teach him to follow his passion.
If you are a parent, I welcome your take on this topic – how do you approach this with your kids?

I agree with you in the fact that parents should let their children choose with freedom what they want to do in their lives. However, I would point out that they inevitably will be influenced by our preferences and lifestyles. If a child percieves a parent shows special interest and enjoys some sort of activity more than other, they will tend to imitate, since children like to enjoy what their parents enjoy. So if we provide them with plenty of shared joyful moments, we will be broadenig their spectrum, filling their lives with a richer experiece and contributing to their future success (the greatest is to do in life what you most enjoy). But it is patrents who choose for their kids, especially when they are in their early childhood.
I have pictures of the cutie!
