I Hate Wal Mart

Erin and I generally refuse to shop at Wal Mart. I say “generally” because there are times when we are stuck in a situation that requires a Wal Mart trip. We usually shop at Target, but there is not one in Muskogee so we have to go to Wal Mart for items such as diapers and trash bags. Each time I go, I am very disgusted by the long lines (there are about 100 checkout stations, there are usually only five that are open) and the lack of customer service. Seldom can you find help.

I found a web site called i-hate-walmart.com

Oh my gosh, I know exactly what you mean! When I went to New York our hotel was right outside the city in New Jersey. Not far from the hotel was a Wal-Mart so we decided to pop in just to get some snacks for the room. Well, our “pop in” quickly turned into a living nightmare because there seemed to be about the same number of people there that I’d expect to see at an Obama rally and far from enough open check out lines. In other words, I hate Wal-Mart too.

Yeah, I have recently grown an intense hatred for Wal Mart as well. I went there to apply for a grant and the lady tells me to call her back the next Monday (it was Friday). That was the beginning of June, and I have called back everyday just to get a “She’s busy,” or “She’s on vacation,” or “She’ll be with you in a minute,” just to be put on hold for half an hour before I hang up.

They have no respect for their customers nor Thespians asking for money for their Club!!!

Roger, honestly, I hate to say it, but give it up. I tried with them as well about the money and they were nothing but unresponsive. I’m a Target and now also an IKEA person.

Oy, I went to IKEA annd that is one store I never want to go to again. Yeah, it was cool that they had mini-restaurants in there and it was probably one of the coolest furniture stores out there but I felt trapped in there. Then they lead you to some random warehouse at the end of it all and it was like in a movie where the killers and rapists would take their prey.

Roger - regarding IKEA: A bit dramatic are we?

Also, in defense of Wal-Mart (which I do not defend them!) is that my mother-in-law, who is a high school choir director, has gotten a lot of funds/matching funds from Wal-Mart over the years. Of course, that is Oklahoma and you guys are talking about Florida - which is another blog entry altogether.

Florida - I won’t even begin to address issues in this state. There must be something in the air that causes people to act incompetently wherever you go.

IKEA is a bit scary upon your first visit, but once you learn your way around it gets better. They have a great selection of merchandise at great prices. I think it’s good for America. It teaches people to conserve, use what they have, and do things for themselves. Yay for the Swedes!

I came home and said the exact same thing to Tim yesterday. I prefer shopping on post at the PX and commissary, since it’s cheaper, or at HEB, since it’s cleaner and less crowded, but sometimes it’s just handier to only make one stop, and Wal-Mart has everything.

By the way, I get my diapers at Babies R Us (or Toys R Us). They often have coupons for $5 off the big box, and then you can also add manufacturer’s coupons which make the diapers the cheapest around.
